Holt’s fine 18th century Georgian buildings make the town one of the most attractive in north Norfolk. The town is home to many independent shops, art galleries, antique, book shops and wonderful places to eat and drink located along the high street and tucked away in hidden, charming courtyards and alleyways.
The market place in the middle of the town has a cross memorialising the soldiers who lost their lives in the war. Off the market place, a tree lined avenue leads to the 13th century church of St. Andrew. To make sure you see all the key landmarks in the town, take the Holt Owl Trail, by following the owl pavement plaques.
A short walk away is Holt Country Park, a 100 acre woodland with oak, pine and silver birch trees, picnic areas, nature trails and a playground.
Just outside the centre of Holt is the North Norfolk Railway station where you can catch the Poppy Line steam and diesel train services to Weybourne and Sheringham. A bus runs from the station to Holt market place.
A short distance from Holt are the ruins of Baconsthorpe Castle, a moated and fortified 15th-century manor house, that was owned by the Heydon Norfolk family. Also worth a visit is Letheringsett Watermill, Norfolk’s only working watermill, producing flour from locally grown wheat. Each summer, Holt hosts its famous festival where it becomes home to street performers, musicians, poets, actors, dancers, artists and comedians.
Holt’s rural coastal location, with its unique town, makes it the ideal place to stay in all seasons.

Reviews
Bridget, January 2025Stayed 3 nights a last minute break with my son his wife and baby, for my sons birthday.
Place was hidden away but lovely
Limited parking space but that is explained . The cot was missing but James got one over to us promptly after we mentioned it.
Basically it’s a beautiful little cottage that is very well kept! 5* from me and my guests.
Left a welcome package
Tea biscuits juice and wine which was lovely.
We would definitely recommend it and stay again.
Christopher, October 2024We were delighted with Rock Rose Cottage. We felt completely at home the moment we walked in. It’s a calm and cosy cottage with everything we could ever need. If we were coming to the area again, we wouldn’t look anywhere else. Thank you so much for having us!
Leanne, October 2024Amazing place, so well equipped with everything we needed. Beautiful decor and decorated to a very high standard. Less than ten minute walk into the town, we loved our stay here and would highly recommend
Jane, September 2024Beautiful property – very homely in an ideal location. The secret garden was an added bonus too.
Peter, September 2024Rock Rose is a lovely ‘home away from home’ and we instantly fell in love with it. The kitchen is all equipped and laid out with everything you need. The lounge is a really snug place to relax after a day out at the coast or one of the many inland attractions within comfortable drives of under 45 mins (Sandrignham & Wells-next-the-sea) or 15 mins to Cromer/Sheringham. All the bedrooms are superbly laid out and beds are very comfy, we all slept well :0). Holt is a lovely village with plenty of independent and traditional fishmongers, greengrocers, butchers and cafes/bars that we frequented and hopefully all continue to thrive.

Tracy, September 2024We really enjoyed the stay at rock rose cottage. The kitchen had everything we needed. Each bedroom had lovely furnishings. Also loved the deep bath ,very relaxing after a long day.The secret garden was lovely although we didn’t find this till the day before we left as the sign for the secret garden was on the floor and neighbours/residents in near cottage
were sitting on chairs in front on the gate of the entrance. We are looking forward to coming back again in the summer and making use of the secret garden now we have found it . This cottage is such a great location as it’s not far to visit many lovely places . We can’t wait for our next visit . Thank you for a great cottage retreat 🏡
September 2024A delightful cottage tucked away in the residential area of Holt, within walking distance of the high street amenities. Beautifully decorated and very comfortable for our family holiday.
August 2024Nicely decorated and provided all home comforts. The addition of the garden with seating and garden room was great. Short walk into town as well.
July 2024The directions were clear, although without them the cottage might have been difficult to find. The property was in immaculate condition and we felt immediately at home. Our odd query was answered very promptly and effectively. We were confident that we were in good hands and our stay was the more enjoyable as the consequence.
June 2024We had the most wonderful stay at Rock Rose. The cottage is beautiful and very well equipped with oil to cook with as well. The secret garden centre was so peaceful, the pictures of this area don’t do it justice.
The town centre is super easy to walk to and is super picturesque. A lovely stay all in all.
June 2024Great cottage. Very nicely decorated with high quality furnishings, beds etc. Very comfortable place to stay and relax with loads of space. It’s like a tardis inside! Only comment would be if you have a large car then the parking space takes a bit of shuffling about (pretty tight turn) but lots of space once you’ve parked up.
Short walk into Holt and a great base for a break in North Norfolk.
June 2024Even though the weather wasn’t on our side, we had a wonderful 6 nights in Holt and left feeling relaxed. The cottage is wonderful and we would love to return at some point in the future. If you’re looking for a comfy base to explore Norfolk, it doesn’t get better than this.
May 2024There were 5 of us for a surprise birthday long weekend in North Norfolk and this cottage was exactly what everyone needed. We had everything we needed in the cottage and it was quick and easy to get into Holt and to catch the steam train to Sheringham.
