The Lookout
Set in an elevated position in the coastal village of Salthouse, The Lookout is a distinctive clapperboard and knapped-flint coastal house with wonderful views across the marshes towards the sea. Tucked away along a peaceful private lane leading to the village church, it enjoys a wonderfully quiet setting while still being within easy walking distance of the beach, marshes and village amenities, including the award-winning Dun Cow pub and excellent village store.
The detached house has a large parking area with space for two cars and is surrounded by a Mediterranean-style garden filled with large palms, bamboo, phormiums, euphorbia and wild valerian.

Tucked away along a peaceful private lane leading to the village church, it enjoys a wonderfully quiet setting while still being within easy walking distance of the beach, marshes and village amenities, including the award-winning Dun Cow pub and excellent village store.
The detached house has a large parking area with space for two cars and is surrounded by a Mediterranean-style garden filled with large palms, bamboo, phormiums, euphorbia and wild valerian.
The Lookout has a distinctive style and is suited to guests who appreciate individuality and interiors with character. Rather than the contemporary feel of a traditional holiday cottage, the house has been furnished with an eclectic mix of collected vintage pieces, including a Timothy Oulton vintage sofa, a vintage Ligne Roset leather rocking chair and a handmade coffee table, alongside an abundance of carefully curated artwork and more contemporary additions.
The light-filled, vaulted living space has French doors opening onto the decked garden, making the most of the coastal setting during the warmer months. Inside, an assortment of seating surrounds the wood burner, creating a cosy place to settle in when the weather turns cooler. A dining table seating four sits in the corner of the room, with the well-equipped kitchen alongside.
There are two en-suite bedrooms, both with king-size beds. The first, with its vaulted ceiling, features a beautiful four-poster bed, a separate built-in wardrobe area and an en-suite bathroom with a freestanding bath. A small set of steps leads to the second bedroom, which has built-in storage and its own en-suite shower room.
A staircase from the hallway leads to a small study tucked beneath the eaves – ‘The Lookout’. With a desk looking out across the marshes towards the sea, it’s a peaceful spot for catching up on a little work, reading or simply taking a moment to enjoy the view.
Outside, the deck has an L-shaped sofa and takes full advantage of the property’s elevated position and far-reaching outlook. It’s a lovely place for a morning coffee, an evening drink or simply to sit and watch the changing landscape towards the coast.
For guests who enjoy vintage furniture, collected pieces, carefully curated artwork and a home with a personality all of its own, The Lookout offers a relaxed and memorable base from which to enjoy this special stretch of the North Norfolk coast.

Carolyn, February 2026We had a lovely few days here over the February half term – we had worried it would be really cold, but the heating in the bedrooms worked well and the fireplace did the trick in the living areas. It was great for our family of three. It is nicely laid out, so we were able to put our 7 year old to bed and watch TV etc without any noise issues. The kitchen is small but workable and they had pretty much everything you need for cooking etc. Beds were very comfortable and they provided lots of towels. Amazing views from the living room out across Salthouse beach – nice veranda although it was too cold for us to use it on this visit. There is a good pub a short walk away, and a nice little shop, plus it’s very close to other bigger places with supermarkets such as Holt and Sheringham.

A bit of an over sight during winter and perhaps more significantly the hot water had been turned off… James was responsive and tried to be helpful… but took 5 hrs for the immersion tank to produce water for a shower… not ideally for NYE festivities!
